Serving the Urban Poor

Focus on the poor

An estimated 20% of the adult Philippine population suffers from serious chronic and degenerative diseases. The majority of these people are impoverished and unable to rise above their poverty. Most of them will not be able to cure their diseases.

Therefore, one primary multi-faceted aim of establishing the AM Wellness Center is to:

enable low-income families or persons who can ill afford expensive medical treatment to receive treatment that is natural, effective and tailored to their means

maintain a publicly transparent fund by which the treatment of the poor can be subsidized so that AMWC's cost is brought within a range that is easily met – such service should not be totally free or else it will not be properly regarded

follow a quota system by which at least 30% of the people receiving treatment are benefited by subsidies

empower people with a practical method of curing their diseases through a simple, holistic and guided program

provide training and establish a network of natural therapists among organized urban poor communities.

Projects and Activities
In tandem with individual natural therapy services provided for the poor, other service projects and activities that reach out to the disadvantaged public in and near to Cebu City include:

naturopathy missions
natural therapy missions

medical missions
medical missions – incorporating other types of treatment along with natural means

massfeeding
mass feeding missions

fire victims
preparing catastrophe relief stocks and teams, activated whenever needed. Here our team distributes food, kitchen equipment and clothes to 400 people who lost their homes in a fire in a Cebu slum.

mountaineering
mountaineering youth groups – also inspiring the youth with service and health programs

AMSAI
kindergartens – based on progressive universalistic education systems. We have three kindergartens in Cebu Province. Two are for very poor children in Carcar. The third is a model school in Lapulapu which has such a high quality program that there is usually a waiting list of children hoping to gain entry.

As the Center wants to reach out to urban poor communities, it is actively working with NGOs which are doing development work in the town-barangays of Cebu City.
